Screen Printed Bed Throw
My previous project required me to make a product suitable for Batch or Mass Production, inspired by Denby Pottery. I decided to make a bed throw with a matching cushion, with the colour theme of black white and gold.
Follow these photos and come on this making journey with me!
I printed my designs onto acetate.
I laid my designs out onto a medium size screen to check if they would all fit properly.
I coated my screen all over on both sides. This allows for your image to be exposed. After coating I put my screen into the drying unit and left it to dry for forty five minutes.
I taped my designs together and made sure that they met up correctly. This is so I can print bigger areas at once. I then taped my designs down onto my screen ready for exposing.
I put my screen onto the exposing unit with the flat side facing the glass (downwards). The exposing unit acts as a vacuum so that the design is pressed tightly against the screen to give the best effect. It was exposed for eighty seconds.
I washed my screen straight after exposing it, to wash away all of the coating that will now become my design.
Now I have washed my screen it is much easier to see my designs. I will now be able to pull ink through the screen. The light areas will be where the ink comes through.
After each time I pulled the glue through the screen I have to immediately wash the screen and squeegee so that the glue does not block it. Then put the screen into the drying unit to dry off.
I made sure that my fabric was sitting flat and stretched on the printing table. Masking tape around each of the edges to keep the fabric securely in place.
